An old sketch I happened upon...

We know a Chaos Marine when we see one, but there was a process that changed their forms. What did they look like right after the 'fall' as they slipped into chaos?

Interesting, although I think, technically, the eagle was not the symbol of the Imperium until after the Battle of Terra. That said, this is based on a very old (original) understanding of Warhammer 40,000, and it seems to have been retconned by a lot of company illustrators and some lack of attention to detail on the part of art directors... or maybe I am way off base.

as for what they look like after the fall. should be still wearing the mark 5 and 6 power armor. [link]

i think only after they defeat and when into the eye of terror. they started to decorate their armor with spikes and chaosy stuff.:D
